ARTIST STATEMENT

Intimacy and fragility are the common thread running through my photography. In my youth, I often lacked a sense of security. Photography became my way of exploring that void. In my images, I sometimes show what connection can be, but also how painful it is when it is missing.

For a long time, I photographed only people. In my book Wild is the Wind (2022), I explored the expression of dancers in nature. Since then, images of nature have been an important part of my visual language. In juxtaposing body and landscape, I explore how fragility and strength correlate. I increasingly focus on layering: Through creating photo series that leave room for interpretation.

Black and white and a shallow depth of field help me to draw attention to what forms the core of the image: A glance or movement that makes intimacy, or the absence of it, palpable.

For me, art is a means of offering consolation, connection and providing insight. Photography enables me to make that power visible.
